BAC50 Benzalkonium Chloride 25L

Lab Quality | MADE IN UK

BAC50 also known as BZK, BKC, BAC, alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and ADBAC is a type of cationic surfactant. It is an organic salt classified as a quaternary ammonium compound. It has some main categories of use: as a Algaecide, Bactericide and Fungicide. The product is also used as a cationic surfactant and as a phase transfer agent. BAC50 is 50% Benzalkonium Chloride and is generally colourless. Benzalkonium chloride is readily soluble in ethanol and acetone. Dissolution in water is slow. This 50% is purely aqueous.

Algaecide, Bactericide and Fungicide:

This products is extremely useful for tackling green fungal growth in the garden. Only a very small concentration of 2% or less is required to make a big impact on green growth. By applying a 2% solution of BAC50 you can reduce algae, bacteria and fungus massively…remember to keep this product away from water however though as it is harmful to animals and plants which may come into contact with that water. Use as a spot treatment for areas you want to remove green, bacteria and fungus from.

Cationic surfactant:

Benzalkonium chloride also possesses surfactant properties, dissolving the lipid phase of the tear film and increasing drug penetration, making it a useful excipient.

  • Laundry detergents and treatments

  • Softeners for textiles

Phase Transfer Agent:

Benzalkonium chloride is a mainstay of phase-transfer catalysis, an important technology in the synthesis of organic compounds, including drugs.

Bioactive Agents:

BAC50 is used in a wide range of consumer products.

Medicine:

Used extensively in the optometry and ophthalmology industry.
