Distilled Water

Trade chemicals distilled water is water that is boiled into vapour and then condensed back. This way the liquid is then placed into a separate container; so impurities in the original water may not boil at or below the boiling point of water. They then remain in the original container. So it is one type of purified water. Distilled water is the best quality option if high water purity is essential.

Common Uses:

This water is used as battery water in many different vehicles, and it is also used in autoclaves. It can be used in chemical dilution; colourimetric testing and DNA Sequencing. It has food-grade applications and also pharmaceutical applications. It’s utilised in gas chromatography, heating baths; hydrogen generators and also as iron water. It can be used in media Preparation; and also pH Buffer Preparation; along with numerous other uses.

Frequently asked questions

What is distilled water?

Distilled water is water that has undergone a purification process called distillation. It involves boiling water, collecting the resulting steam, and condensing it back into liquid form, removing impurities and minerals in the process.

Why is it recommended for certain applications?

It is often recommended for specific applications like laboratory experiments, medical procedures, and some household appliances because it is free from minerals, chemicals, and impurities that could potentially interfere with desired outcomes or damage sensitive equipment.

Can I drink this type of water?

Yes, you can drink it but it’s important to note that it lacks essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. Regular consumption of solely distilled water may not provide these crucial nutrients, so it’s advised to obtain minerals from a balanced diet.

Is distilled water the same as purified water?

Distilled water is a type of purified water, but not all purified water is distilled. Distillation is just one method of purifying water. Other methods include reverse osmosis, carbon filtration, and UV irradiation.

Does it conduct electricity?

It has a very low conductivity because it does not contain dissolved-minerals or salts that facilitate the flow of electric current. Therefore, it can be used for certain scientific experiments and electrical applications where the absence of conductivity is desired.

Can I use it in my steam iron or humidifier?

Yes, using it in steam irons or humidifiers is generally recommended. This is because it lacks minerals and impurities that can accumulate and clog these appliances over time, potentially reducing their performance or causing damage.

Is it safe for babies?

It is generally safe for babies when used occasionally, such as for mixing formula or medications. However, it’s not recommended as the primary source of drinking water for infants due to the lack of essential minerals. Consult with a paediatrician for specific guidance.

Can It be used for cooking?

Yes, it can be used for cooking. However, when you boil food items in distilled water for an extended time, certain flavours may be lost due to the absence of minerals. For most cooking purposes, tap water is perfectly fine.

How long can it be stored?

It does not have an expiration date if stored properly. It should be kept in a clean, sealed container to prevent contamination. However, it’s recommended to use within a reasonable timeframe to ensure freshness and quality.

Excellent product I’m a cpap user and because of the hard water in the South, I was descaling my water tank at least every 5 to 7 days, despite washing and drying daily
I’ve been using this distilled water daily for a few months now and no descaling needed.
I can feel the difference when I have my mask on as it makes me cough less and don’t feel so dry mouthed.
    I would recommend to all

  2. Lois Knight (verified owner)

I use a Resmed cpap machine and the terrible plastic tank fails if you use anything other than distilled water.
I’ve used this company for over a year and the product and price and communication is outstanding. And if YOU want to foot the bill for sending the empty bottles back, they will accept them. If you can’t afford to send them back freecycle them on a Freecycle site and someone will use them …

  3. PaulC (verified owner)
