Oxalic Acid removes stains such as ink from wood, rust stains from a variety of materials such as concrete and also mildly bleaches wood. This Acid can also help with the removal of rust from metal surfaces. Oxalic Acid is also used for cleaning fibreglass boat decks and hulls, however it is found naturally in many plants.

Main Uses:

Oxalic acid’s main applications include cleaning or bleaching, especially for the removal of rust (iron complexing agent). Its utility in rust removal agents is due to it forming a stable, water-soluble salt with ferric iron. Oxalic acid is also an important reagent in lanthanide chemistry. Hydrated lanthanide oxalates form readily in very strongly acidic solutions. This forms a densely crystalline, easily filtered form; largely free of contamination by nonlanthanide elements. Thermal decomposition of these oxalate gives the oxides; which is the most commonly marketed form of these elements.

Safety Information:

Eyes and Skin: Can cause irritation.

Inhalation: Can cause serious coverage damage to the mouth, throat and stomach.

Ingestion: If large doses are swallowed this can be fatal.

Safety Precautions:

Respiratory Protection: Use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirators.

Ventilation Requirements: Ventilate as necessary to eliminate dust from the work area.

Skin and Eye Protection: Use rubber or neoprene gloves, chemical goggles and clothing sufficient to protect skin from dust.

Work and Hygienic Practises: As required to protect skin and eyes from dust. Safety showers and/or eye wash should be available. Do not leave food or smoke in work area. Accordingly wash thoroughly and remove or clean any contaminated clothing.

AVOID contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing dust. Use normal personal hygiene and housekeeping. Store in a cool dry area away from other incompatible materials. Due to this, to prevent moisture pick up and caking this product should be stored in a dry area; and this is due to it being slightly hydroscopic.

Keep Away From:

Strong oxidizers, alkalis, chlorides; hypochlorite and furfuryl alcohol.
